State Police: Clarification on new arrests in Kevin Quick case

Chris Graham

Reserve Capt Kevin Quick 3The Virginia State Police issued a statement late Friday morning saying that a Richmond television station has inaccurately represented the latest developments in the ongoing Kevin Quick investigation.

A statement from the State Police on the latest developments:

The Office of the Medical Examiner is still in the process of positively identifying the body discovered in a recently timbered lot in Goochland County Thursday afternoon (Feb. 6). The remains were located shortly before noon by law enforcement during a search along Old Columbia Road.

As the investigation progressed Thursday into Quick’s disappearance, three Northern Virginia residents became persons of interest in relation to the case. Those three were taken into custody late Thursday night and are being held at Henrico County Jail each on a charge of principle in second degree to the crime of murder. This means these individuals are not being charged with Quick’s homicide but in association with his death.

From the earlier report:

NBC12 in Richmond is reporting that three people are in jail in Henrico County charged with the murder of Waynesboro Police Reserve Capt. Kevin Quick.

Halisi Uhuru, Leslie Hope Casterlow and Anthony Darnell Stokes are charged with capital murder in the death of Quick, according to arrest warrants obtained by the TV station.

The arrest warrants say the three murdered Quick during an abduction between Monday and Wednesday.

Quick went missing late Friday night as he traveled from his mother’s home in Nelson County to a home in Albemarle County.

A body found in a remote area near the Goochland County-Fluvanna County line believed to be Quick has been sent to the State Medical Examiner in Richmond for identification.

Three Albemarle County siblings already in jail in connection with Quick’s disappearance – Mersadies Shelton, 20, Daniel Mathis, 18, and Shantai M. Shelton, 24 – remain in custody.

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. today in Waynesboro.
