The December “River City Radio Hour” will be a hilarious evening of music and comedy. The two performances on Friday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Christian Fellowship will depart from the usual “Radio Hour format.” The Waynesboro’s Got Pride Society has arranged to take over the “Radio Hour” for its benefit performances of The Jingle Bell Jubilee Talent and Phone-a-thon.

The Jubilee will feature a unique set of “local” talent. It includes poultry farmer George Shiflet and His Hens of Renown, and Miss Holly Winterburg, local poetess, as well as The Boogie Kings and a host of surprising performers. The “star” of the Jubilee, Little Terry Winslow Jr. will reveal his true talent, the one that had him on Broadway. The audience will be amazed! Altogether, the “Radio Hour” audiences will have an opportunity to see, hear, and judge some of the more unusual, if not the best, talent in the Valley.

An added feature of the Jubilee will be phone calls from local listeners, registering their votes and support for the efforts of the Waynesboro’s Got Pride Society to raise funds for the gigantic statue of Gen. Anthony Wayne to be erected on landfill hill.

The Jingle Bell Jubilee is the creation of Barbara Spilman Lawson and Elizabeth Massie, who wrote the fall “Radio Hour” serial, Waynesboro’s Got Talent. Both will appear in the Jubilee as will the River City Players: Rose Harper, Marsha Howard, Mason Hulen, Bill Martin, Clair Myers and Matt Warner.

Also featured in the December performances will be the finalists of the “River City Radio Hour” joke contest, conducted by comedian Marsha Howard. The finalists will include: Irv Beedles, Sandi Henderson, Nathan Lowe, Jenna Mitchell, Elizabeth Lohr-Myers and Jeff Windes.

Seats are limited. Sell-outs are a regular occurrence for the “Radio Hour.” Reserved seats are available for the Radio Hour for $7.50. Call 540.943.9999 to make a reservation.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the first performance.

The Dec. 18 “River City Radio Hour” will be part of the Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc. annual Christmas in River City Celebration. The celebration will feature carriage rides, Santa Claus, the Yule Log parade, a street band, craft village, storyteller, special activities for children and a drawing for the “Buy into Waynesboro” prize.

Call WDDI at 540.942.6705 for more information.

“The River City Radio Hour” is a production of the Wayne Theatre Alliance with funding from the Waynesboro Cultural Commission, the City of Waynesboro, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
