Dr. Brian Josephs from OB Hospitalist Group is the recipient of the 17th annual Golden Stethoscope Award.

The award recognizes outstanding physicians on the Sentara RMH Medical Staff who demonstrate excellence in patient care, customer service, communication and teamwork. Josephs serves Sentara RMH Medical Center Family Birthplace.

The Golden Stethoscope Award is announced annually as part of the hospital’s recognition of National Doctors’ Day on March 30.

With more than 400 physicians on staff, Sentara RMH Medical Center had 143 Golden Stethoscope Award submissions with 37 individuals receiving nominations for 2025. All hospital team members, as well as staff in the local independent medical practices, can submit nominations.

“Dr. Josephs is respected and trusted by his peers and patients. He keeps his team well-informed, fosters a collaborative environment and serves as an exceptional mentor. His sound judgment and thoughtful decision making ensure the highest standard of care for his patients,” Dr. Robert Garwood, chief medical officer for Sentara RMH Medical Center, said.

Joining the medical staff in November 2023, Josephs helped launch the Sentara RMH OB hospitalist program. He leads the hospital-based team of board-certified OB/GYN physicians and certified nurse midwives, with providers on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Dr. Josephs’ peers call him a ‘wonderful physician who patients adore.’ They shared their admiration for his calm approach, mentorship of colleagues, and involving and leading patients through difficult decisions,” Garwood said.

Labor and delivery patients give positive feedback about the care and attention that Josephs provides and appreciate his kind, caring demeanor. The Family Birthplace nursing team consistently shares feedback about how much they enjoy working with him, how collegial he is and how responsive he is to their questions or concerns.

“He is lauded for his communication, collaboration, kindness and professionalism – exactly what the Golden Stethoscope Award embodies. We are honored to recognize Dr. Josephs’ exceptional dedication and commitment to Sentara RMH Medical Center and our community,” Garwood said.
