Richmond police officer injured when juvenile fires shot during traffic stop

A Richmond police officer was injured Thursday night after a juvenile suspect fired a shot at him during a traffic stop.

Today, the 16-year-old boy from Richmond wanted in the shooting surrendered to the Chesterfield County Police Department without incident.

The juvenile has been charged with malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, use of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a concealed weapon.

The incident happened at 11:29 p.m. when officers stopped a vehicle in the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue. Officers reported observing suspicious movements in the vehicle and directed the occupants out of the car.

The suspect fired the shot at the officers and then fled on foot, according to the RPD.

Officers did not return fire, according to the police report.

No update was given on the condition of the RPD male officer who was injured.
