Multiple sources are confirming to the Augusta Free Press that Waynesboro city manager Doug Walker will tender his resignation to Waynesboro City Council tonight.

A closed session to “discuss the resignation of an employee” was added late today to the agenda for tonight’s regular business meeting. A second closed session in which city-council members will receive legal advice regarding the resignation of a “specific public officer” was also added this afternoon.

Sources told the AFP that Walker informed members of city council of his decision to resign his job late last week. The sources told the AFP that the resignation was forced by the new ultraconservative majority on city council that will take office on July 1 – Frank Lucente, Tim Williams and Bruce Allen.

Stay tuned to augustafreepress.com tonight for updates on this breaking news.
