Update: 16-year-old juvenile in Lynchburg shooting dies, suspect in custody

Update, 1:45 p.m.

The victim, a 16-year-old male, involved in the shots-fired incident on Thursday afternoon has died, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

Police say this was an isolated incident.

A person connected to the shooting is currently in custody on unrelated charges.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

The Lynchburg Police Department is working to investigate two incidents that may be connected: a call for shots fired and a juvenile who was dropped off at the hospital in critical condition.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded 200 block of Hillcrest Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Around the same time, a juvenile male arrived at Lynchburg General Hospital with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.

The Lynchburg Police Department is working diligently to gather information and determine the circumstances surrounding both events.

The investigation is ongoing.
