ralph northamOn Tuesday, January 27 at 10am Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam will host the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia’s annual Use A Helmet, Prevent Epilepsy reception at his office in Richmond.(102 Governor Street, Richmond). The Lt. Governor will give prizes to the winners of the 2014 Use A Helmet, Prevent Epilepsy contest; and the National Epilepsy Foundation CEO, Phil Gattone, will present awards to Delegate John O’Bannon, Delegate Jennifer McClellan, and Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam for their support.

“In some cases, epilepsy can be prevented, and we all need to do our part to support prevention efforts,” said Northam. “As a pediatric neurologist I treat lots of children with epilepsy and see the profound effects it can have on a child and family. I am grateful for all the Foundation is doing to help create awareness and promote prevention.”

The 12 winners of the contest are from Bowling Green, Stafford, Frederick County, Chase City. Alexandria, Ruther Glenn, Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Lynchburg. This annual drawing contest has been organized by the Epilepsy Foundation Virginia (ESFVA) since 1994. EFVA’S Use A Helmet, Prevent Epilepsy campaign is intended to create better awareness about epilepsy prevention which improves the quality of life for children and families and also helps save money. More than $4 million could be saved each year if hospital visits for traumatic brain injury and seizures in 700 extra children are successfully prevented.
