JMU Fan Zone gets a facelift

jmu logoFans that make the JMU University Outpost Fan Zone part of their game day tradition will be in for a surprise this Saturday, as JMU Athletics will unveil its new and improved University Outpost Fan Zone on Godwin Field.  The inflatable games and bounce house will continue to be a mainstay, along with complimentary face painting by JMU Cheerleaders.  New features for the 2014 season include live music on the Clementine’s Presents Sound Stage, the Schewels TV Zone, the MadiZONE Pre-Game Show, as well as other additions to energize the JMU Nation on gameday.

JMU Athletics has partnered with the popular downtown restaurant to debut the Clementine’s Presents Sound Stage.  For three games this season, Clementine’s will bring musical acts to JMU’s campus.  This Saturday, well known Americana band, The Judy Chops, will play from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Godwin Field.  “The opportunity to partner with a restaurant that is so connected to the Virginia music scene is something we’re very excited about.  We think it adds an amazing dimension to the Fan Zone for fans of all ages,” said Director of Marketing Stephen Pugh.

Another new addition is the Schewels TV Zone.  With four 50″ televisions, fans will be able to catch all of the early action from games around the country.  “Schewels is a new partner for JMU Athletics, and we think that this is a great opportunity to showcase their fantastic product line and as a long-time member of the Harrisonburg Community, a great chance to extend the relationship to the JMU Community,” said Director of Corporate Partnerships Mike Chatburn.

For fans that are familiar with catching games on MadiZONE HD Sportsnet presented by the JMU Alumni Association, they’ll have another opportunity with the MadiZONE Pre-Game Show.  The mostly student-produced pregame show will run from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Godwin Field, featuring interviews, features and inside access leading up to the game.

The Fan Zone will also feature several themed promotions during the season.  This Saturday, kids can check out the petting zoo and members of the JMU Puppy Pound will have the opportunity to take pony rides.  Finally, Chick-fil-A will be selling chicken sandwiches and a Starbucks Truck will be located adjacent to Godwin Field.

Assistant AD for Ticketing and Customer Relations Michael Carpenter said, “We really are looking to increase the value for our fans and make gameday much more of an event and an experience.  We want to make JMU football the best entertainment option in the Valley.”

The University Outpost Fan Zone is open from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Godwin Field. The Dukes take on Saint Francis this Saturday, September 13th at 4 p.m.  Tickets are available online or by calling (540) 568-3853.  Individual game tickets start at $27 with season tickets starting $108.
