Jeffrey Carson on Eighth District congressional ballot

congressAfter being confirmed on the ballot by the Virginia State Board of Elections late last week, Jeffrey Carson, the Libertarian candidate running to replace Rep. Jim Moran, turned in the last of his petitions Tuesday in Richmond before the filing deadline. The total number of signatures collected, which passed the 2,100 mark, more than doubled the required amount.

“I feel incredible gratitude for the overwhelming show of support from voters in Virginia’s 8th district,” Carson said. “I couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication of my staff and amazing volunteers.”

Upon learning that he’d be facing Don Beyer – winner of the Democratic primary – in the general election, he had this to say: “I’m happy for Don and wish him the best of luck. I know the voters are looking forward to an open and honest debate of the issues, and I’m confident Don will be willing to accommodate that wish.”

Carson is part of a new wave of Independent-minded millennials challenging the entrenched political establishment. He believes all sides of the political spectrum need to focus first on those common denominators we can all agree upon in order to get things done. And he takes seriously that, even when we disagree, we should continue to show a level of respect and class which is seemingly absent today in our nation’s capital.

It’s time to send a very loud, very clear message to Washington by electing a candidate who’s beholden not to special interests or the party line, but to the American public. If Carson’s growing army of volunteers is any indication, Virginia’s 8th district looks ready to make that choice.
