Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County closed tonight for accident cleanup

i81-headerInterstate 81 northbound will have a detour tonight (July 30) as part of operations to clear a tractor trailer accident from earlier today.  This location is near Lexington in Rockbridge County.

Work will begin at 8 p.m. and may last until 7 a.m.  The ramp from I-64 eastbound onto I-81 northbound will be closed.  This is located at I-64 exit 56 and I-81 exit 191.

Traffic from I-64 eastbound heading northbound on I-81 will be routed to the I-81 southbound on-ramp at I-81 exit 191.  Traffic will proceed southbound on I-81 to exit 188A at Route 60 in Lexington.  Traffic will use exit 188A to access the I-81 northbound lanes.  Detour signs will be in place.

A left lane closure will be in place on I-81 northbound at mile-marker 191.5, which is where the tractor trailer clean up is located.

All work is weather permitting.
