Hurricane Tammy will bring stormy weather to Bermuda later this week and then may take a track toward the East Coast.
However, one senior meteorologist said the U.S., and more particularly Virginia, won’t likely see major impacts from the storm.
“Once the storm gets past Bermuda, it will probably curve north and then northeast away from the United States, said Thomas Kines with AccuWeather. “It’s likely we will have little, if any impact, on the U.S.”
Rough surf is a possibility later this week and early next week from Tammy, Kines said.
“If by chance Tammy did move closer to the East Coast than AccuWeather expects, it would be a weaker version of what it is now,” Kines said. “Are the chances of Tammy having a major impact on the U.S. zero percent? No, but it certainly seems unlikely.”
Virginia should be more interested in the stellar weather ahead for the next seven days, Kines said. Temperatures in Waynesboro, for example, are expected to reach as high as 81 degrees this week.
“A lot of sunshine and temperatures well above normal,” Kines said of the upcoming forecast. “I realize some areas of the state could still use the rain but for those who have outdoor plans this week, the weather can’t be beat.”
