Hughes featured at Art Center in January

Contributors

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of January, is presenting paintings by Malcolm Hughes.

Hughes feels that his painting results from a combination of two interests: that of studying the shape of natural things in all their particularity and the way things are mysteriously connected and interrelated as an ingredient of the phenomenon we call beauty. His paintings celebrate the diversity of color, often echoing the entire color wheel with an impressionist’s approach to color and light. His landscapes reflect our life and land.

Before relocating to North Garden, Hughes ran a professional studio for 12 years in Taos, N.M. His paintings have been collected throughout the United States and Japan.

An Opening Reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, 5–7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist after he speaks briefly about his work.

In the Hallway Gallery artwork by The Paletteers, a local group of women painters will be displayed while the Member’s Gallery will feature photography by art center members.

Shenandoah Valley Art Center offers, for members of the center and community, many workshops and classes taught by professional artists. Art classes offered in January are Beginning Watercolor taught by Penny Cabell the four Wednesdays of the month and Clay: Handbuilding Dinnerware taught by Donna Kincaid, five Thursday sessions beginning Jan. 12 and SAK, Saturday Art for Kids from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. offers a unique art experience for young artists. Contact the art center for specific information and pre-registration.
