Eating for Strong Bones Talk Held at East Rockingham Senior Center

ersc-strong bonesTony Morgan, Physical Therapy Technician from Advantage Physical Therapy, visited the East Rockingham Senior Center on April 17 to discuss “Eating for Strong Bones.” Mr. Morgan’s visit is part of an ongoing partnership that ERSC has with Advantage Physical Therapy in which a representative discusses a health or nutrition topic every other month.

Mr. Morgan’s nearly hour long discussion provided lots of relevant information for the 18 members, 1 volunteer and 1 guest, who were in attendance during his early morning visit. Some of the facts that were outlined included: bones turn over and regenerate just like muscles, but bones grow slower with age; bone fractures increase with age; calcium is vital for strong bones, and more calcium is obtained from kale than from milk; plant based foods, nuts and protein are essential to maintaining healthy bones.

Mr. Morgan’s wit and very personable demeanor was appreciated by those in attendance.

An upcoming program by Advantage Physical Therapy professionals will address how to maneuver if/when a fall occurs.
