A Crimora man faces charges after initiating a chase with an Augusta County sheriff’s deputy on Monday.
William Glenn Smith, 47, will be charged with assault and battery, felony eluding and grand larceny.
At 12:41 p.m. Monday, patrol deputies with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a male assaulting a female in the 1700 block of New Hope and Crimora Road.
As deputies responded to the scene, the male suspect, later identified as Smith, fled the area in a silver Kia, bearing Maryland License plates. The speeding Kia passed a deputy near the intersection of New Hope and Crimora Road and Battlefield Road.
As the deputy turned on the suspect vehicle, Smith fled west towards Verona at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The deputy soon lost sight of the Kia, and he discontinued the pursuit. A short time later, the Kia was found hidden in a grassy area near a tree line behind apartments in the 700 block of Laurel Hill Road. Smith fled on foot and was not located.
Warrants are pending on Smith, 47.
