The body of a Charlottesville man who had recently become unhoused was found in a ravine behind a Banbury Street home on Saturday.

Charlottesville Police have identified the remains of Ben Franklin Staton, 66.

No cause of death could be determined, but police are saying that no signs of trauma were discovered, and that there was no evidence of a crime scene in the immediate area.

The last known contact with Staton reportedly occurred on Sept. 13.

A 911 call had reported the discovery of Staton’s remains behind a home on the 2200 block of Banbury Street.

The call was logged at 3:07 p.m. on Saturday.

Due to the condition of the remains, no immediate identification could be made, police said, so the unidentified remains were transported to the Office of Medical Examiner, and an examination was conducted on Monday.

Investigators are continuing to investigate this matter. If you have any information related to this incident or have recently had contact with Staton, contact CrimeStoppers at 434-977-4000.
