The Ivy Creek Foundation will host its Farm Day event on Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ivy Creek Natural Area and Historic River View Farm.

The event is designed to celebrate and experience the agricultural roots of the area and learn about farming today. The event will include family-friendly activities, exhibitors, demonstrations and informational tables from community partners.

“We are excited to have this event and honor the Carr/Greer/Hawkins family who farmed this land for over 100 years,” said Sue Erhardt, executive director. “It is important to spotlight the hard-working farmers who still work the land today. We are looking forward to this day and connecting our community with its farmers.

“Farmers and their experiences are an important part of our history and a story that has often been overlooked.”

The event will focus on presenting information to the public about the current issues affecting farmers, the history of farming in the region and the future of farming and farming practices.

Historic River View Farm is a national African American historic site and will focus on African American and Indigenous farmers.

If you are interested in farming, food justice or the history of farming, there will be information for you.

The farm is located at 1780 Earlysville Road in Charlottesville.
