A juvenile traveling more than 70 miles per hour led police on a pursuit Thursday night that could have major consequences for the teen.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as a 17-year-old juvenile; their name will not be released. However, numerous charges are pending.
According to the ACSO, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle Dec. 4 that was traveling more than 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit in Stuarts Draft. The deputy activated their emergency lights in the 3000 block of Stuarts Draft highway.
The teen, in a Hyundai sedan, allegedly accelerated in an attempt to elude the deputy.
The pursuit continued across Draft Avenue, Hodge Street, Lake Road and Howardsville Turnpike.
The driver then left the roadway and traveled into a field off Patton Farm Road before eventually stopping around Mount Vernon Road and Stuarts Draft Highway.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking parents to use this incident as an opportunity to talk to their children about the harsh reality of a felony conviction and the risk for teens, other motorists and law enforcement.
