Burris to serve as interim CFO at RMH

RMH officials have announced that Mike Burris, chief financial officer of Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, will serve as interim CFO at RMH starting about May 1 while continuing his current duties as CFO of Martha Jefferson.

Burris will fill the vacancy left by current RMH CFO Mike King, who has accepted a position with El Camino Hospital in the Silicon Valley of California. King, who has been with RMH since 2007, will leave RMH at the end of April, according to hospital officials.

Both RMH and Martha Jefferson Hospital are members of the 10-hospital, not-for-profit Sentara Health System. The two hospitals have been working more closely together since they are in the same region, noted RMH President Jim Krauss.

“We wish Mike King much success as he pursues new challenges,” said Krauss. “While he gave us reasonable advance notice of his departure, we realize that recruiting a new CFO could take many months. Our team assessed a number of short-term solutions. We determined that, since Martha Jefferson is a sister hospital in close proximity to RMH, having Mike Burris serve as our interim CFO would be a sensible option while we assess alternatives for the longer term.”

Burris has served as chief financial officer of Martha Jefferson Hospital since 1986. Before joining MJH, he served as the vice president of Finance and chief financial officer at Radford Community Hospital, now the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, in Radford, Va. He started his career in public accounting.

Burris holds a B.S. in business, with a major in accounting, from Virginia Tech. He is a certified public accountant and a certified Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

“In the past, I have interacted with members of the RMH leadership team through various partnerships and networking involving our two organizations and, more recently, through integration efforts in the Blue Ridge Region of Sentara,” said Burris.

“Through these experiences, I have developed a great deal of respect for RMH, its leadership and its culture. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work closer with the RMH leadership team and to help ensure that RMH achieves its goals and continues to remain financially strong to serve its community.”

Burris and his wife, Dianne, have three children and live in Charlottesville.
