Stuarts Draft High School will present “Bright Star–School Edition” this weekend.

Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s “Bright Star” tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 1940s.

When literary editor “Alice Murphy” meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, “Alice” sets out on a journey to understand her past and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion that tells of the tragedy of great loss, the importance of family and the redemptive power of love. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, “Bright Star” is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

The show is directed by Amy Neal Bussey, with musical direction by Katie Glydewell and choreography by Keyairra Talley. “Bright Star” features more than 40 students from Stuarts Draft High School, including principals Alandra Nice, Meredith Gebhardt, Toby Cramer, Ryder Talley, Natalie Ingram, Tobi Johnson, Stephen Mikell, Noah Cheek, Carol Jobe and Tyler Kirby. The show is complete with a phenomenal live bluegrass band which will also play for 30 minutes before the show starts.

The show is rated PG and contains some mature themes which may be more appropriate and relevant to pre-teens and older students.

Thursday night is alumni night and all SDHS musical alumni will be admitted free of charge. Sunday afternoon is senior recognition when graduating seniors will be honored.

Tickets can be purchased online. Premium tickets are $15, Adults $12, and Students are $10. Ticket prices are higher at the door, so please consider buying online.

Stuarts Draft High School is at 1028 Augusta Farms Road, Stuarts Draft. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. on March 6 to 8 and at 3 p.m. on March 9.
