A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run on Saturday in Bedford County, and Virginia State Police are searching for the suspect vehicle.

A silver/gray pickup truck pulling a small black utility trailer crossed the center line and struck the cyclist in the 3900 block of Nemmo Road in Bedford County at 1:30 p.m., according to VSP.

The driver got out of his vehicle and checked on the injured cyclist and immediately got back in his vehicle and fled the scene.

The cyclist was identified as George Jerome Stephens, 67, of Jacksonville, Fla.

George died at the scene.

A witness at the scene stated the suspect driver was a Hispanic or possibly Indian male individual, approximately 30 to 40 years of age, with short dark (brown/black) curly hair.

The vehicle left the scene going south on Nemmo Road toward Route 24.

The suspect vehicle will have damage to driver’s side mirror and damage to the front left headlight and front fender.

If anyone has any information about the hit-and-run, call the State Police at 540.375.9500.
