An Augusta County man is in custody after leading police on a short foot pursuit Friday afternoon.
Lloyd Preston Knight, 63, of Craigsville, was allegedly driving recklessly on Parkersburg Turnpike near Staunton at 4:23 p.m., according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
A sheriff’s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Knight, who was driving a Chevrolet truck. Knight did not stop and instead continued into a nearby subdivision. Knight allegedly ditched his vehicle off Pine Tree Lane and fled on foot.
After a short chase, the deputy was able to take the driver into custody without further incident.
“Reckless driving puts everyone on the roadway at risk,” said Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith. “I am proud of the quick response and professionalism displayed by our deputy in safely apprehending this individual and preventing a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further.”
Knight has been charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle with a revoked/suspended license
- Misdemeanor eluding law enforcement
- Reckless driving
- Attempt to flee from law enforcement
He is currently being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
