A body was found near the Norfolk Southern railway line in Covesville after a train passenger called 911 to report seeing it.

Albemarle County Police Department investigators believe the person died in mid-June. They found the body on Saturday; the same day the passenger reported it.

The deceased adult male was found in a wooded area off the tracks.

The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for positive identification and final determination on the cause and manner of death.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
