Afton man eats meth, arrested in Waynesboro

JOHNSON, STEPHEN LOUISThe Waynesboro Police Department has arrested an Afton man on a felony drug charge after he was caught with methamphetamine in his vehicle and later in his mouth.

Officers charged Stephen Louis Johnson, 43 years old, with possession of methamphetamine who also had to be transported to Augusta Health’s Emergency Department because he chose to eat his stash of methamphetamine than be caught with it.

On July 31 at approximately noon, an officer made a routine traffic stop on Johnson’s Buick LeSabre at the 7-11 convenience store on Rosser Avenue.  A search of Johnson’s vehicle resulted in digital scales with powdery residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.  The officer arrested Johnson and transported him to the Police Department.  While at the Police Department, Johnson spit a plastic bag out of his mouth.  Johnson told the officer that he didn’t want to get caught with it so he ate it while the officer was pulling him over.  It is estimated that Johnson ingested about a quarter of a gram of methamphetamine.

Johnson then became anxious, jittery and his complexion began to turn yellow.  The Waynesboro First Aid Crew had to transport Johnson to the hospital with two police officers accompanying them.  Johnson was treated and released to police custody three hours later.  He was transported to Middle River Regional Jail where he remains without bond.
