acluAmerican Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Virginia Executive Director Claire Guthrie Gastañaga has been named to Equality Virginia’s 2015 class of OUTstanding Virginians.

Each year since 2009, Equality Virginia (EV) has honored a select group of individuals who represent Virginia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community with distinction and are committed to moving the LGBTQ community forward.  In 2013, EV extended the honor to include allies, like Ms. Gastañaga, for their contributions made on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

“I am humbled to be included on this list with such distinguished Virginians and privileged to be an active part of the effort to gain equal freedoms for the LGBTQ community,” said Gastañaga. “The most rewarding part of my career has been getting a chance to be involved in this work that makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

OUTstanding Virginians will be honored at Equality Virginia’s 12th Annual Commonwealth Dinner on April 18 at the Richmond Convention Center. Other 2015 class inductees include: Keri Abrams, William C. Hall, Jr., Rodney Lofton, Paula Prettyman and Kelly Schlageter, Todd Rosenlieb, and Mothers and Others of Virginia.

About ACLU of Virginia: The ACLU of Virginia promotes civil liberties and civil rights for everyone in the Commonwealth through public education, litigation, and advocacy with the goal of securing freedom and equality for all.  For more information on the ACLU of Virginia go to www.acluva.org.
