Downtown is for Booklovers! With four bookstores in Downtown Staunton, the city has become a prime destination for booklovers. The area is also home to dozens of writers, as SWAG Writers has discovered. To help bring local writers to the attention of local readers, SWAG Writers (The Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta Group of the Virginia Writers Club) has put together its inaugural Bookfair in which area writers and publishers will offer their books for sale to the public.
In addition, four local bookstores will be offering valuable discount coupons to Bookfair buyers. The event is co-sponsored by Staunton Downtown Development Association, Barrister Books, Black Swan Books, Bookworks, and the Sacred Circle. Refreshments will be served.
The SWAG Writers Bookfair will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00am to 5:00pm at 16 W. Beverley St., Staunton. Some of the 20 local authors who will be on hand to sign their works are Jennie Coughlin, Phyllis Anne Duncan, Stan Galloway, Clifford Garstang, Sarah Kennedy, Jack Morgan, R.T. Smith, Charles Welsh, Matthew Warner, and Bruce Wetterau. For each book purchased at the Bookfair, buyers will receive a coupon good for a 15% discount on the price of one book at each of the four sponsoring bookstores—the same coupon will be honored at all four stores!
This event is the latest offering by SWAG Writers in order elevate the profile of area writers and promote the literary arts in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. SWAG Writers provides a forum for local and visiting authors to share their work with the public through a variety of activities. The group is made up of professional, aspiring, and hobby writers who also host a monthly mixer where members meet to network and socialize and read short excerpts of their work at an open mic.
