Virginia Tech had put itself on the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble earlier in the week with its upset win at Clemson.
The 92-69 home loss to a sub-.500 Florida State team puts the Hokies back on the other side of the bubble.
The issue: defense.
FSU (12-13, 5-7 ACC, NET: 95) shot 29.0 percent from the floor and was 6-of-33 from three in its 61-58 loss to Virginia on Tuesday.
Today in Blacksburg, the ‘Noles shot 61.8 percent from the floor, and was 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from three.
That included otherworldly second-half shooting – 18-of-23 (78.3 percent) from the floor and 5-of-7 from three.
Martin Somerville had 23 points (9-of-11 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 1-of-2 FT) and six assists for the Seminoles.
Ben Hammond and Tobi Lawal each had 16 points to lead the Hokies.
