Greensville County: One inmate dead after attack overnight at Correctional Center

An inmate is dead after an attack at the Greensville Correctional Center this morning.

According to the Virginia Department of Corrections, the incident occurred at 3:10 a.m. when an inmate attacked their cell partner.

One inmate was found by staff on top of the other, who was unresponsive.

Life-saving measures were attempted until first responders from Greensville County arrived on scene.

The inmate was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. by a doctor at the Bon Secours Southern Virginia Medical Center.

No names have been released of the victim or attacker. VADOC has not disclosed if a weapon was used in the attack.

There is no active threat at the correctional center, located in Jarratt.

VADOC’s Office of Law Enforcement Services is actively investigating this incident.
