A vehicle pursuit in Albemarle County led to the arrest of two men early Thursday suspected of larceny in the area of Crafton Circle.

According to police, a 911 caller reported the larceny with men wearing all black attire and masks who were attempting to break into vehicles in the area.

When deputies arrived on scene, the suspects fled the scene, and a vehicle pursuit began northbound on Seminole Trail.

During the pursuit, a firearm was thrown from the vehicle.

In the area of Proffit Road, officers utilized a controlled maneuver to stop the vehicle, at which time the two suspects fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit and the assistance of a K-9 unit, both men were taken into custody.

The suspects have been identified as Maquarr I. Chambers, 22, of Howardsville, and Dyonte L. Trice, 19, of Charlottesville.

Following a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a second firearm, stolen jewelry, cash and wallets and a gaming console.

The firearm discarded from the vehicle was also later recovered by officers.

Chambers has been charged with:

  • felony prohibited wearing of a mask (§18.2-422)
  • reckless handling of a firearm (§18.2-56.1)
  • obstructing justice (§18.2-460)
  • four counts of unlawful entry to a vehicle (§18.2-147)

Trice was charged with:

  • felony prohibited wearing of a mask (§18.2-422)
  • felony eluding (§46.2-817)
  • carrying a concealed firearm (§18.2-308)

Both men are being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.
