Henrico County | One dead after truck has tire blowout on I-295, goes over guardrail

A 54-year-old man was killed when his truck experienced a tire blowout on I-295 in Henrico County on Wednesday.

Jacob Scott Southers, of Colonial Heights, died at the scene.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 1:40 p.m. at the 26 mile marker, a tenth of a mile south of Portugues Road.

The investigation indicates that the Ford F-350 likely experienced a tire blowout, and the driver lost control and ran off the road. The vehicle overturned, went over the guardrail and landed on the train tracks below.

The crash remains under investigation.
