The Love Forward Foundation, a Staunton-based nonprofit organization, has announced a series of creative haven workshops scheduled to start in September. The workshops aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment for at-risk youth to express themselves through creative activities.
The Love Forward Foundation is dedicated to supporting children and young adults impacted by parental incarceration and adverse childhood experiences.
“Our goal is to create a space where children and young adults can explore their creativity, build resilience, and find joy in self-expression,” said Keisha Nicholson, founder.
Local statistics
- Waynesboro has an incarceration rate of 1,079 people per 100,000 residents, with a total of 242 people in prison or jail
- Staunton has an incarceration rate of 946 people per 100,000 residents, with 246 people incarcerated
- Augusta County has 514 people in state prison or local jail
These statistics highlight the urgent need for supportive programs like those offered by the Love Forward Foundation.
Creative writing and hair art workshops
The Love Forward Foundation offers creative and supportive programs.
- Sept. 7-8, 21-22
- Creative writing workshop: Participants will engage in writing exercises that encourage self-expression and storytelling.
- Hair art workshop: This workshop will allow participants to explore hair styling as a form of art and personal expression. These workshops feature a variety of fun and engaging activities designed to promote physical well-being and teamwork.
