Tropical Storm Debby is on track for a direct impact to the Shenandoah Valley, including Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.

The heaviest rain will be during the mid-afternoon and tonight, and the rain should taper off tomorrow, according to Thomas Kines, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.

Five to seven inches of rain is expected throughout the region.

“There is concern the mountains to the west can receive more than eight inches,” Kines said.

There may also be gusty winds during the evening and overnight as Debby approaches the area. Winds gusts up to 40 mph are predicted.

Seven people have died in the path of Debby, according to The Weather Channel.
