A flood watch has been issued for numerous localities in Virginia due to heavy rain expected from Tropical Storm Debby.
Three to five inches of rainfall is expected within the watch area with localized totals up to eight inches.
The flood watch is in effect from 8 p.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. on Friday.
During the 24-hour period, flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Excessive runoff may result in the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
The flood watch includes:
- Albemarle County
- Augusta County
- Central Virginia Blue Ridge
- Clarke County
- Culpeper
- Eastern Highland County
- Frederick
- Greene County
- Madison County
- Nelson County
- Northern Virginia Blue Ridge
- Orange County
- Page County
- Rappahannock County
- Rockingham County
- Shenandoah County
- Warren County
- Western Highland
Portions of Maryland and West Virginia are also included in the flood watch.
Anyone in the watch area is encouraged to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
