Before you get too upset about how little Waynesboro is set to get from the 2026-27 School Security Equipment Grant program administered by the Virginia Department of Education, keep in mind, the applications would have been filed weeks ago.
Which is to say, well before last week’s shooting at Westwood Hills Elementary School that still has the community on edge, and will for a while.

OK, so, here goes, with the grant award.
Waynesboro Public Schools was approved for a $65,520 grant, to go toward Berkeley Glenn Elementary School and Westwood Hill Elementary School.
Don’t spend it all in one place, indeed.
This year, the grants totaled $12 million, according to what we were told by the VDOE.
Eligible school divisions could submit applications for the 2026-2027 school year between July 1 and Aug. 1.
School divisions were eligible to receive up to $250,000.
