United Way of Greater Augusta’s Volunteer Center Launch at local Senior Centers

United Way of Greater Augusta will launch their Volunteer 2012 initiative at area Senior Centers on Friday, Jan. 20. The Volunteer Center is an online center approved by the Virginia Office of Volunteerism and Community Service to serve our region.

Over the next 12 months, the UWGA Volunteer 2012 initiative is to Give 20 Hours, Volunteer 20 Times, and Impact 20 Lives. The launch will be the first program associated with the initiative as the United Way of Greater Augusta partners with Senior Centers in hopes to engage active adults and retirees with opportunities in volunteerism.

The United Way of Greater Augusta and McKee Foods have partnered to donate the computers, monitors, keyboards and printers for each center. The UWGA will be holding presentations at each of the centers throughout the day to demonstrate how to use the website and stress the importance of volunteering in our community. The online center provides the accessibility of all the opportunities to volunteer in our area from over 90 agencies. UWGA urges all active adults and retirees who want to learn more about volunteerism in our community to attend one of the three Volunteer Center presentations.  The presentations will include a reception and an educational piece and are as follows:

– Churchville Senior Center at 10 am-noon

– Waynesboro Senior Center at 1-3 p.m.

– Staunton Senior Center at 4-6 p.m.

If you are interested in volunteering, the Volunteer Center can be accessed online at www.UnitedWayGA/volunteer. For more information on becoming a volunteer or sharing a volunteer opportunity please contact Cynthia Pritchard at [email protected] or by calling the United Way office at (540) 885-1229.
