The Kiwanis Club of Waynesboro is kicking off their “Raising A Ton of Money for the Food Bank” fund-raising campaign benefiting the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The campaign will conclude at the club’s annual Kiwanis Charities for Kids Pancake Breakfast on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March17 at the First Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Kiwanis Club members will focus on involving and encouraging the community to help Kiwanis in their goal to raise a “ton of money” in support of the Food Bank.

Volunteer groups and individuals are encouraged help with the fund-raising, bring whatever they raise to the Pancake Breakfast (tickets available in advance and at the door), and deposit their donations into the Food Bank 55 gallon collection barrel. The Club believes a physical representation of collaborative community fund-raising is an excellent way to raise money and focus on the plight of those in need of help.  Every one dollar raised can provide four meals for someone in need.

Thematically, they have developed St Patrick’s Day strategies to add a little fun to the campaign. Cash and Coin collection jars are being placed in area businesses, the club will be out in the community collecting funds, and will offer Irish entertainment and special events at their breakfast.

The goal, to raise a minimum of a “Ton of Money” (2,000 pounds) of coins, currency, and checks would equal approximately $15,000. With that amount, the Food Bank will be able to provide 60,000 meals to people in need in our community.

For more information about the event or to request a collection jar for your business, call 540-836-8164.
