State revenue collections decreased by 2 percent in February over the prior year mainly due to one fewer deposit day. February is not generally a significant month for revenue collections. On a year-to-date basis, total revenue collections rose 5.5 percent through February, ahead of the annual forecast of 3.6 percent growth.

Virginia State Police are continuing its search efforts Wednesday in Bath County where a missing woman’s vehicle was located on Monday, March 11, 2013, at approximately 6:22 a.m. The vehicle, a 2006 silver, BMW 325i, was discovered near Back Creek on Route 39 about a ½ mile from Route 600 in Bath County, which is located in the Mountain Grove Community. Evidence at the scene indicates no signs of foul play.

Staunton City Manage Stephen F. Owen announced today the selection of Steven L. Rosenberg as assistant city manager. Rosenberg replaces James M. Halasz, who left Staunton to accept the position of Halifax County administrator last July.

On a strong bipartisan vote of 14-4, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee today passed U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner’s bipartisan CAMPUS Safety Act, which would consolidate federal campus safety efforts into the National Center for Campus Public Safety.

The ACLU of Virginia and more than a dozen other groups concerned about voting rights today sent a letter to Governor Bob McDonnell urging him to veto legislation that imposes stricter identification requirements at the polls, which the groups expect will limit eligible voters’ access on Election Day.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli today announced the creation of a bipartisan Attorney General’s Rights Restoration Advisory Committee tasked with examining what alternatives may be available within the existing framework of the Constitution of Virginia to restore the civil rights – primarily voting rights – of individuals convicted of certain nonviolent felonies who have completed their sentences and paid all fines and court-ordered restitution.

Shenandoah National Park Fire Managers plan to burn 500 acres in the park’s south district sometime between March 15 and April 30. The burn area is located west of Jarman Gap and northeast of Waynesboro, Virginia.
