VDOT road work schedule for April 8-12

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

Waynesboro Senior Center puts on its walking shoes

As spring temperatures arrive, the Waynesboro Senior Center is kicking off a new walking program for our members. Our inspiration is the One Book One Community book “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson. Our walking team will be tracking our steps with pedometers and averaging our distance each week in an attempt to get to 545 miles which is the length of the Virginia part of the Appalachian Trail.

Mike Papi ninth-inning grand slam lifts #4 UVa. baseball to comeback win at Wake Forest

Down to its final strike with two outs in the ninth inning, the No. 4 Virginia baseball team rallied for a 7-6 victory over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Mike Papi (So., Tunkhannock, Pa.) hit a two-out grand slam off Wake Forest closer Connor Kaden to give UVa a 7-6 lead, capping a five-run, ninth-inning comeback.

UNC lacrosse tops UVa., 10-7; Cavs drop fifth straight

Kieran Burke made 23 saves for No. 4 North Carolina (8-3, 2-1 ACC), lifting the Tar Heels to a 10-7 win on Saturday over the No. 18 Virginia Cavaliers (5-6, 0-2 ACC), in front of 6,787 fans inside Klöckner Stadium. Despite winning almost every statistical category over UNC by a large margin, UVa has lost five games in a row for the first time since 1966.
