Stuart Hall to honor fallen alums

Stuart Hall School will begin its Alumnae/i Weekend with a special wreath laying memorial service to honor former students and faculty who have died. Of special mention will be Renee Smith Gatling, Class of 1973, the first African American student to graduate from the School, and Lance Cpl. Jason C. Redifer, Class of 2003, one of the first males to attend the Upper School at Stuart Hall.

Spy! Tales from the Civil War at WTA’s Gateway

In keeping with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, WTA’s Gateway has engaged award-winning storyteller, Lynn Ruehlmann to perform her tale of Civil War spies. The performance will be at 7 pm at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main Street on Thursday, April 18. The program will feature the stories of Elizabeth Van Lew and Rose O’Neal Greenhow who used their wiles and skills to secure information for opposite sides in the war. Each story is a fascinating look at the role of women in the conflict that split the nation.

Waynesboro Public Library marks National Library Week

Waynesboro Public Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week from April 14-20, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

Job seekers to learn job finding skills at Waynesboro Public Library

The Waynesboro Public Library has teamed up with the Waynesboro Rotary Club and the Office on Youth to host a career day. “Get a Job” Job Skills Fair on Thursday, April 25 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Sessions scheduled for the day will help job seekers learn job finding skills.

#4 UVa. baseball evens series at Georgia Tech

Scott Silverstein (R-Sr., Olney, Md) allowed a run and two hits over seven strong innings as the fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team cruised to a 7-2 victory at No. 17 Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. Silverstein (6-0) struck out nine and walked two in tying his career-long effort as UVa. (31-5, 13-4 ACC) evened the series at a game apiece.
