#7 UVa. baseball rallies, beats ODU in 10, 10-9

Jared King (R-Sr., Radford, Va.) hit a walk-off single to score Branden Cogswell (So., Ballston Lake, N.Y.) with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the No. 7 Virginia baseball team to a 10-9 triumph over Old Dominion Wednesday night at Davenport Field. Down 7-2 in the sixth inning, Virginia (32-6) rallied to score its 14th come-from-behind win of the season.

Horse owners urged to vaccinate against West Nile, EEE

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) urges all horse owners to check with their veterinarians for West Nile Virus (WNV), Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and rabies vaccination recommendations for their animals. Virginia only had one confirmed case of WNV in 2012 and no cases of EEE, although the number of horses affected in previous years and in other states was much higher. State officials are concerned that horse owners may be lulled into inaction by the lack of diseases activity last year and neglect vaccination this year.

2013 Governor’s Challenge champions in economics and personal finance

Gov. Bob McDonnell today announced the winners of the 2013 Governor’s Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance. Preliminary online rounds attracted 2,172 high school students from across Virginia, with 160 students qualifying for the day-long championship competition at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) on April 17 where the following teams prevailed:
