McAuliffe releases new report on potential impacts of Cuccinelli tax plan

tax-newVirginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe’s campaign today released a new report, “Virginia’s Schools in Danger,” which provides locality-based data on how Ken Cuccinelli’s tax plan could cut public education funding in communities across Virginia.

“Ken Cuccinelli has proposed a massive tax gimmick that would blow a $1.4 billion hole in Virginia’s budget with no explanation of how he would pay for it,” stated McAuliffe spokesperson Josh Schwerin. “As a result, localities across the Commonwealth could lose significant revenue that they depend on to support public education. Virginians deserve to know the dangerous implications of Cuccinelli’s plan, including his proposal to divert funding from public schools to private schools.”

McAuliffe discussed the report today while meeting with education students at Old Dominion University, noting that Norfolk schools could face over $16 million in budget cuts, which could lead to more than 250 teachers losing their jobs. McAuliffe’s education platform, released in May, focuses on reforming the Standards of Learning (SOLs) and emphasizing STEM and computer science education, and is available here.
