UVa.’s Joe Harris named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List

Virginia senior guard Joe Harris is one of 15 players named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List, announced Tuesday by the United States Basketball Writers Association. The award is to be presented to the national player of the year by its namesake at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on April 14.

nTelos reports third-quarter business numbers

nTelos Holdings Corp. today operating results for its third quarter ended Sept. 30. Operating revenues for the third quarter 2013 increased 14.4 percent to $130.9 million, compared to $114.5 million for the same period in 2012. Subscriber revenues increased 14.4 percent to $73.7 million for the third quarter 2013, compared to $64.4 million for the third quarter 2012.

Shenandoah National Park to implement night closures of Skyline Drive

Park Superintendent Jim Northup announced today that portions of the Skyline Drive, the famed mountain road through Shenandoah National Park, will be closed at night during hunting season. He noted that this is the 33rd year that this closure has been undertaken and stressed its importance in reducing illegal hunting activity within the park.

UVa.-VCU men’s basketball game sold out

The No. 24 Virginia men’s basketball game against No. 14 VCU on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena is sold out. Virginia opens the season against James Madison on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at JPJ. Tickets are on sale for this game at four price levels: $15, $16, $19 and $25. Family Package tickets are also on sale for this game.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports names Dave Shreve new executive director

Dave Shreve has been named executive director of Wintergreen Adaptive Sports, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to improve the lives of people with disabilities through outdoor sports and recreation. As the full-time executive director Shreve will oversee day-to-day operations, supported by a staff of five part-time seasonal employees.
