Twenty-six million Americans — consisting of women, men and kids of all ages — suffer from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), as reported by the U.S. (NIH). Noise-induced hearing loss is caused by exposure to unsafe noise levels of 85 decibels (dB) or higher, and can be permanent or temporary.

At 11:12 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 6), Virginia State Police Trooper S.A. Simmons was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at the 223 in Augusta County. A southbound tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the road, struck the guardrail and overturned. The impact of the crash caused the trailer to rupture and spill its load.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today that TE Connectivity Ltd. (NYSE: TEL) will invest more than $15 million in the expansion of the company’s operations in the Town of Culpeper in Culpeper County. The plant designs and manufactures undersea fiber optic telecommunication cables, electro-optical-mechanical cables, and steel wire.

Depending on what time you went to bed on Election Night, either Republican Mark Obenshain or Democrat Mark Herring was the winner in the 2013 Virginia attorney general race. For most, it was Obenshain, who had the lead in the counting all night long. If you stayed up into the wee hours, it was Herring, who led by 616 votes in the counting as of 3 a.m.

To better measure the effects and causes of sports concussions, researchers from University of Virginia School of Medicine and UVA’s Curry School of Education plan to track 130 student-athletes in three sports over the next year.

The UVa. baseball team released its 2014 schedule on Tuesday (Nov. 5). The Cavaliers will play 34 home games as part of their 55-game schedule. Virginia’s schedule includes 34 contests against 15 teams that won at least 30 games a year ago, including 22 games against 10 programs that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
