UVa. men’s soccer is #8 seed in NCAA Tournament

The UVa. men’s soccer team has earned the No. 8 seed and a first-round bye in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. On Sunday (Nov. 24) at 1 p.m., Virginia (10-5-5) will play host to the winner of Thursday’s Delaware-St. John’s match. The men’s second-round contest at Klöckner Stadium will precede the third-round NCAA women’s tournament game, which will be held at 5 p.m.

Maureen Silva to join Bridgewater College as vice president for institutional advancement

Following an extensive national search, Bridgewater College has selected Dr. Maureen Silva to join the College as vice president for institutional advancement. Silva, who comes to Bridgewater with a broad background in higher education development and fundraising, will begin on Feb. 1, 2014.

UVa. women’s basketball defeats Louisiana Tech, 95-82

The Virginia women’s basketball team (2-1) had its highest scoring output since 2009 as the Cavaliers defeated Louisiana Tech (0-2), 95-82, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 16) at John Paul Jones Arena. The last time UVa scored 95 points in a game was Nov. 18, 2009, a 110-63 win over USC Upstate in Charlottesville.

#25 UVa. basketball wins at Davidson, 70-57

Mike Tobey led four UVa. players in double figures with 18 points as the #25 Cavaliers won at Davidson, 70-57, on Saturday. Virginia (2-1) led by just two at the half, 29-27, before breaking the game open with a 22-9 run after halftime. Malcolm Brogdon had 17 points, and freshman point guard London Perrantes had five points and five assists in his first career start.

Bridgewater College Symphonic Band remembers composer Elliot Del Borgo

The Bridgewater College Symphonic Band will present a concert on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m., in Cole Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. The Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College.

Top-Seeded UVa. women’s soccer defeats Saint Francis 5-0 in NCAA tourney

The top-seeded UVa. women’s soccer team opened play in the 2013 NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) Friday night in front of 1,611 fans at Klöckner Stadium. Sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Cavaliers (21-1) into the second round.
