House of Delegates passes ethics reform bill

With overwhelming bipartisan support, the House of Delegates passed the House Ethics bill (HB 1211) that would establish a Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council to review disclosure forms, ban gifts of more than $250, and require disclosure of gifts to immediate family members.

“The passage of the ethics reform bill is an important first step in restoring the public’s faith in their elected officials,” said Democratic House Leader David Toscano, D-Charlottesville. “As the bill goes through the process, we will make further modifications which will build on our bipartisan effort to date and work with the Senate to make sure an ethics reform bill gets to the Governor’s desk.”

“We’re proud of the bipartisan effort and work that went into this bill so far,” said Del. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond. “We look forward to continuing to work across the aisle to make sure we get an ethics reform bill that will help restore the public’s trust in their elected officials to Governor McAuliffe’s desk.”
