Virginia will host the University of Notre Dame at Scott Stadium in 2015, as announced today by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC announced which league members the Fighting Irish will play in the first three seasons of their football partnership with the conference that begins with the 2014 season.

Garin Cecchini reached base four times, the Salem Red Sox erupted for five runs in the third to knock out the Hillcats starter early, and Salem cruised past Lynchburg 8-1 in the opener of their four-game set at City Stadium.

The Lynchburg Hillcats avoided the sweep tonight beating the Frederick Keys 7-1. Will Skinner led the Lynchburg offense with two hits, including a home run. He drove in one and scored twice. Elmer Reyes chimed in with a season-high three RBI as well. On the mound A.J. Holland delivered his best start of the season, and the bullpen backed him up with four more scoreless frames.

A close call came back to haunt the Lynchburg Hillcats in a 6-5 loss to the Frederick Keys tonight. Matt Lipka tied the game 5-5 in the fifth for the Hillcats with a two-run, bases loaded single that went about 330 feet before bouncing back into the field of play. The umpires said it hit off the top of the wall, while the Hillcats contested it bounced off the second wall and back (making it a home run). The play stood as called, and the Hillcats went on to lose by one, while Lipka and Cory Brownsten went stranded on the bases.

The Lynchburg Hillcats surrendered three home runs on the mound and struck out 13 times at the plate in their 6-4 loss to the Frederick Keys tonight. Elmer Reyes turned in a pair of singles and two RBI in his return to the lineup, but it wasn’t enough as the Hillcats left two on in the ninth and dropped the series opener.

Stuart Hall School will begin its Alumnae/i Weekend with a special wreath laying memorial service to honor former students and faculty who have died. Of special mention will be Renee Smith Gatling, Class of 1973, the first African American student to graduate from the School, and Lance Cpl. Jason C. Redifer, Class of 2003, one of the first males to attend the Upper School at Stuart Hall.
