Potomac blasts Salem Red Sox, 12-4

Three big blasts accounted for 10 of Potomac’s 12 runs, catapulting the Nationals to a comfortable 12-4 victory over the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday evening at Pfitzner Stadium. Jason Martinson and Caleb Ramsey each clubbed three-run shots, while nine-hole hitter Randolph Oduber launched a towering grand slam in the bottom of the third that chased Salem’s starter and paved the way for Potomac’s rout.

Gov. Bob McDonnell to host Business Plan Challenge

Gov. Bob McDonnell today announced that he will host the Governor’s Business Plan Challenge in Richmond May 2, 2013. In recognition of Virginia’s strong entrepreneurial environment, the statewide challenge will spotlight the best business plans or concepts crafted by undergraduate students this year. Public and private Virginia colleges and universities are invited to send their top presenters to Richmond for the Governor’s Business Plan Challenge.

#4 UVa. baseball completes Wake Forest sweep, improves to 30-3

Joe McCarthy (Fr., Scranton, Pa.) homered twice as part of a four-hit day and Nick Howard (So., Olney, Md.) did not allow an earned run over 7 1/3 innings as the fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team recorded a 9-7 win over Wake Forest Monday evening at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Cavaliers (30-3, 12-3 ACC) finished off a three-game series sweep and now have won 11 straight games against Wake Forest (17-17, 4-11), dating to 2008.

Lynchburg Hillcats rally late to top Potomac, 11-6

The Lynchburg Hillcats scored seven runs in the final two innings this afternoon on their way to an 11-6 come back win over the Potomac Nationals. Robby Hefflinger led the offense with two home runs, his second and third of the season. William Beckwith chimed in with a two-run shot in the ninth inning as well. The win gave the Hillcats the series win 2-1 over the Nationals opening weekend.
