
Valentine Activities Dominate the Last Week at Center

Due to bad weather, the Staunton Senior Center local council had to postpone its monthly meeting until Jan. 31.

Agritourism in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia will be able to roll out a whole new range of activities in the coming years thanks to a recent $60,000 grant from the Building Collaborative Communities program. The Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission will administer the grant on behalf of the Fields of Gold region. Funds will be allocated to develop partnerships, create business support services for farmers and agritourism operators, market the Valley’s rich agricultural offerings and build a sustainable organizational structure for long-term viability.

LEARN (Learn English and Reading Now), the nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring for adults in basic reading and writing – and in English for Speakers of Other Languages – in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County, is seeking volunteer tutors to participate in its next training session on Saturday, March 16, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship located at 565 Pine Avenue in Waynesboro.

The storefront at 16 West Beverley Street in Staunton has seen many retail incarnations over the last few decades, but its newest tenants are a contingent of entrepreneurs set on redefining what business and community development in small main streets looks like.

SWAG Writers (The Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta Group of the Virginia Writers Club) presents a Playwriting Workshop for beginning and intermediate writers interested in writing for the theater. The instructor is prize-winning playwright Chris Gavaler.

Blue Ridge Soap Box Derby Classic registrations have begun for the annual Soap Box Derby race to be run this year on Saturday, June 1 on 22th Street, between Pine Avenue and Wayne Avenue, in Downtown Waynesboro.

The River City Radio Hour moves into new territory in February. Samuel Johnson returns, Cathy LaFon joins the Boogie Kings, Manfred Martin shares his Vegas connections, Angel Love considers her options and Marsha Howard deals some new jokes. All of them will be at the Friday, February 15th Radio Hour for the two performances at 6:30 and 8 pm at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro. It is a Radio Hour not to be missed.
