The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the VDOT Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Downtown is for Booklovers! With four bookstores in Downtown Staunton, the city has become a prime destination for booklovers. The area is also home to dozens of writers, as SWAG Writers has discovered. To help bring local writers to the attention of local readers, SWAG Writers (The Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta Group of the Virginia Writers Club) has put together its inaugural Bookfair in which area writers and publishers will offer their books for sale to the public.

The music trio Women of Hope will present “The Melodies of Broadway” at the Staunton Senior Center on Monday, April 15 at 11:45 a.m. Jackie Eakin, Lilchy Huffman, and Sherrie Shoemaker became friends while members of the Staunton Choral Society. Daniel Kirkland is their accompanist.

Shenandoah National Park fire managers plan to burn 500 acres in the park’s south district on April 10, 2013. The ignition of the fire is dependent on weather conditions. The burn area is located west of Jarman Gap and northeast of Waynesboro, Virginia.

A 100-mile cycling event held in honor of 2007 Fishburne Military School graduate Michael Woodard is set for Friday, April 26, starting and ending at FMS in Downtown Waynesboro.

Mick Foley once flew off the Hell in a Cell 22 feet to the Spanish announce table. With that image in mind, it’s hard to imagine a guy willing to please paying fans more than the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, who is bringing his one-man comedy show/fan Q&A to Waynesboro on Saturday, April 13.

No one can fault Richard Adams for failing to make the most imaginative combinations for his monthly Variety show. April brings a spectacular array of talent from Opera and Tap Dancing to Accordians, banjo and flutes. All wrapped together with Richard’s famous audience participation sequences: “You Can Be on a Talk Show” and the “Sound Like a Cat Competition.” The April Richard Adams’ Variety Show is Friday, April 12 at 7:30 pm at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.

A Longaberger Basket Bingo will be held Sunday, April 28 at the Stuarts Draft VFW Hall, 3251 Stuarts Draft Highway to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary that occurred in the city overnight. Employees arrived at work this morning to open Check into Cash located at 113 Lew Dewitt Boulevard and discovered the business was burglarized.
