Women’s soccer: No. 3 Virginia continues road swing at Wake Forest

The No. 3 Virginia women’s soccer team continues a three-game road trip on Sunday, staying on the road to take on Wake Forest at 1 p.m. at Spry Soccer Stadium.

Virginia (9-1-1, 3-1-0 ACC) is coming off a 2-0 victory at No. 5 Clemson on Thursday night. It marked the second consecutive win for the Cavaliers and is the third shutout in conference play. Wake Forest (4-8-2, 1-4-0 ACC) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Virginia Tech on Thursday night

Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) and Morgan Reuther (Chantilly, Va.) scored the two goals for the Cavaliers in the victory over Clemson, while Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) and Courtney Petersen (Canton, Mich.) provided the assists on the goals.

Shaffer and Reuther are now tied for the team lead in points with 15 each. Shaffer has five goals and five assists on the season, while Reuther holds a team-leading seven goals. Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) is the team leader in assists with six. The Cavaliers have 12 different goals scorers and 11 players with assists as one of the most prolific offenses in the nation.

The defense for the Cavaliers has been equally as solid, allowing only six goals on the season. Virginia has posted seven shutouts – three in conference play – behind the play of a solid back line anchored by Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) and the play of juniors Jessie Ferrari (Fairfax, Va.) and Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) in goal.

Wake Forest has scored 16 goals on the season and allowed 17 as a team. Sarah Medina leads the way with four goals for the Demon Deacons, while Kahla Seymour is the top ball distributor with four assists.
