An infant suffered serious injuries in a crash with an impaired teen at the wheel early this morning on Interstate 64 in the City of Hampton.

The driver was a juvenile female who has been charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license and a child restraint violation. One additional charge is pending.

The girl also sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Virginia State Police report the crash occurred at 2:04 a.m. on I-64 eastbound at the 261 mile marker. The silver sedan went off the right side of the interstate and struck a guardrail, then went off of the left side of the interstate and struck a jersey wall.

The infant was not properly restrained, according to police.
